Slug and Lettuce: Review

Slug & Lettuce have unveiled their first Durham venue, bringing a wealth of glitz and glamour to the city.

The brand new site on Walkergate is filled with deluxe decor, bright colours and a very high end feel. The neon hues, and bold floral prints that are paired with dark timbers, spots of gold and velvet makes this the ultimate cocktail hangout.
Featuring a VIP Cocktail making station, the bar boasts endless opportunities for luxury fun, with a wallet friendly budget, and countless instagram opportunities for you and your friends.

Making Cocktails, Not Friends..

Birdcage booths fill the lower seating area and provide a VIP experience for lunches, catch ups, quiet drinks, dinners… any occasion. These can be booked in advance too so you can guarantee yourself a seat.

I was lucky enough to perch myself in a birdcage with my gorgeous cousin for a bite to eat and a cheeky non-alcoholic cocktail. It was a girly treat to celebrate the end of a tough week, and I was desperate to get in and give this place a go.

Is it Obvious that we’re Related?

Of course, Slug & Lettuce is a chain, and they’re all over the country, but this one is brand new and absolutely stunning, I had to have this one as my first S&L experience.

S&L offer an assisted service setting, which allows you to find a seat where you like, and then order at the bar before the servers bring you what it is you like, and then they’ll check on you from there.
Knowing that I wanted to give this place a review, we ordered a sharing platter, and a trio of mini desserts and a special from the drinks menu.

The S&L Sahrer is priced at £14.49 and is filled with pulled beef sliders, bbq glazed riblets, chicken wings, garlic bread strips, onion rings, fries and some crudites.
There was easily enough food for two or three people, and it was a great way to eat a variety of foods from the menu. It is incredible value for money, and acts as a nice, hearty alternative to a traditional afternoon tea style meal.

For dessert, there is a selection of miniature desserts, of which we selected, Bailey’s Profiteroles (vegetarian), Salted Caramel Bites (vegan, but may contain traces of dairy) and Churros. I was desperate to try the Macaringues but they were sold out, which is devastating, but gives me a fantastic excuse to go back!
This trio of desserts cost £7, or were priced at £2.99 each.
My favourite is definitely the Bailey’s Profiteroles… They taste like Christmas!!

Finally, the drink. It was £4.95, and included a 25p donation to CoppaFeel, and there was also a two for one deal on the drinks. The Berry Boobtini. Strawberry puree, coconut syrup, cranberry, lime and apple juice then topped with cream and a cherry. A mocktail that still feels like a naughty treat.

I want to point out that this post is funded completely by myself, and that I wasn’t asked to post anything about this visit. I just had such a lovely time, that I thought you deserved to know about it too.
The attention to detail leaves Slug & Lettuce feeling like a fairytale that has come to life. I imagine that it’s the perfect setting for a baby shower or engagement party, but is also the perfect place for a catch up with your favourite people and a couple of posts for your instagram!

Have you been here yet? What do you think? I want to see your photos!!

Life Update!

Hello There, welcome back.

Some of you will have noticed that I’ve been gone for a good couple of months now, and being totally honest it’s purely because I have been out and enjoying the real world. I’ve always been a person that struggles with balancing the outside and online worlds, and so this break has been much needed.

So, with that being said, I thought it would be easier to update you in one post rather than several instagram posts and clogging up your feeds.

Over the summer I worked as a Play Worker for my counties Playscheme, and it is honestly so much fun. My day consisted of driving to site, setting up some games, painting faces and just ensuring that the children had as much fun as possible. Then in the afternoon I would drive to another site and do the same again. I made so many friends this summer and I’m really grateful for that, there really is some wonderful people around.

I attended more than my fair share of parties too!

I also went for a little stay in a caravan in North Wales. Whilst I live there, it’s not a place I tend to explore often, and I’ve probably taken it for granted in the past. Wales is STUNNING!

I’ve been to Manchester for days out, discovered the beauty that is Base Bar and rekindled my love of baseball. I have of course enjoyed so much Taco Bell too.

I went to my first Pokemon Go night too. It was at Chester zoo, and I will be totally honest I just saw it as cheap entry to a zoo that I adore, and I thought I would be able to bag a Dole Whip while I was there… I was so wrong. They closed off half the zoo and that included the Dole Whip stand in Islands, so I was devastated. However, the pokemon catching was a lot of fun, even if there wasn’t anything new or exciting. I did so many steps that day too so it was all good.
If anyone wants to add me as a friend, my trainer code is: 5310 8665 2356

I actually completed my first jewelry order over summer too, which was so bloody exciting. I’ve not had much time to put anything together for a short while now, but my first order definitely boosted my confidence and the feedback made me smile even more!

I went to so many quiz nights. Every Sunday my local pub hosts a quiz and it honestly the funniest night, and is probably the highlight of summer. Of course we absolutely smashed the Pixar themed night, complete with Sulley costumes, and I’ve even dressed up as a member of Kiss. I bloody love my quiz team and I hope they’re still winning without me… Ken Dodd’s Dad’s Dogs Dead!

I went to the baby shower of a really good friend, and we got to catch up. It was so nice to spend time with her, and meeting the new little princess was so lovely! She is so gorgeous and an absolute dream!!

There was a tour of Anfield somewhere in there too. I’m not an avid football fan, and I certainly don’t support Liverpool (I’m a Sunderland gal!) but my boyfriend does, and so when we had a random day off together with no plans, we decided to make the most of it and take a trip. To be fair, it was actually quite interesting and there was some cute photo opportunities so I guess it was worth it.

Matt turned 25, and so I showered him with gifts for our trip to Walt Disney World next year, and I made him a cake. It was my first ever attempt and to be honest, it could have been so much worse! He absolutely loves Dwayne Johnson and WWE so I had to make it special… what do you think!?

We took Matt’s gorgeous niece Freya to build-a-bear for her birthday bear, and whilst I’m almost certain that I had more fun, it was such a cute day.

I turned 23, and I was spoilt with a FitBit and a Dolce Gusto coffee machine, so now I’m motivated and caffeinated there really isn’t any stopping me! Big thank you for the cards and gifts and well wishes. You’re all far too kind!

Finally, I moved back to Sunderland to start my final year of University, and I couldn’t be more excited. My last academic year was such a nightmare, and so I’m ready to celebrate the fresh start, and end my time at University with a bang. It hasn’t been an easy road, but I’ here to make it worth it. Please stay tuned as I will be needing your help with my dissertation soon!

The summer has honestly been a lot of fun, even with all the stresses. My wardrobe and Disney Collection has grown along with my smile and that’s the important stuff.

If you stuck around to the end, you deserve an applause.
What did you all get up to over summer?

All will be back to normal soon, and I’ll stop rambling.
